Tile Adhesive - LATICRETE 335

Avoiding Pool Tiles Popping-off with LATICRETE® 335

When the mercury rises, travelers love to know that a luxurious swimming pool awaits them. And while most hotels and resorts have a pool, some are far more inviting than others.

These swimming pools aren’t just a complementary feature of a resort or hotel they’re also a valuable asset. In today’s world where every back drop possible has the potential to trend on social media, a hotel or resort’s swimming pool can make or break their reputation.

This is why some places upgrade pool designs with fresh and creative swimming pool designs, or re-make them altogether. The most important part of building these pools is the preparation phase, when the overall look is decided. As with all good design, form follows function — for example, a pool meant for fitness swimming can look remarkably different from one intended for luxury entertainment.

Not only do these designs require an understanding of how people will enter and exit the pool, how to maximize sun exposure while minimizing wind exposure, contributing to heat loss and evaporation, but also how the shape and style complements the architecture of the hotel and the existing landscape.
All these factors influence the materials used in the making of the pool. Which leads to the question of what materials can be used.Although plaster had been the dominant pool surface for decades, aggregate and tile surfaces have become de rigueur. Elaborate tile mosaics and/or glass tile provide the artistic flexibility that many luxury pools might require.

However, quality construction of this sort also requires quality materials. One of the most important materials used in the construction of a swimming pool, is the adhesive which is used to ensure the tile adheres to the substrate. Without the right adhesive, the tiles can crack and/or suffer damage due to chemical erosion.

This causes the tiles to shift away from the substrate in a move known as delamination. Water breaks down the parallel structure between tiles and substrate so tiles are prone to peel and fall. Often you just remove the delaminated part of tile and reinstall the new, but sometimes in very serious cases you may need an entire remodel.

This is a waste of time, and resources. In addition to this, these damages can detract from the appearance of the hotel, leading to negative attention.
MYK LATICRETE products ensure that chances of such damages are nullified from the time of installation itself.

These three products in particular work to safeguard the tile installation of a swimming pool, perfectly. The LATICRETE® 335, the LATICRETE®254 Platinum and a combination of LATICRETE®111 with LATICRETE® 73.
