The first fully solar-powered airport in the world,CIAL has won the UN environment award for Entrepreneurial Vision. The first green-field airport to be built under public and private partnership received the award for using sustainable energy.
Powered entirely by solar energy, the airport is100 percent reliant on renewable energy in all daily operations – from powering the conveyor belts to the digital systems. In addition to this, the land where solar panels are kept are used to grow organic vegetables.
Kochi airport is the biggest and busiest airport of Kerala, and the fourth busiest airport in India in terms of international traffic. When plans were made for a new international terminal, the developers were keen to bring on board people with the same vision towards a green future.
With this in mind, MYK LATICRETE was the clear choice.

The total area of application covered nine lakh square feet and was completed in a span of 18 months. The installation system provided by MYK LATICRETE was:
LATICRETE® 290 Premium Thin-set Adhesive for floor and wall – used for fixing vitrified tiles in internal floor areas and washrooms.
LATICRETE® 252 Ag silver Thin-set Adhesive, a high strength polymer adhesive – used for installation of tiles on external wall areas.
SP-100 stain-free tile joint was used to fill tile joints between vitrified tiles in internal floor areas & wash rooms. SP-100 provides 100% stain-free, non-cracking, strong & durable tile joints. It protects the tile joints from cleaning acids/agents, mild chemicals and is antifungal & anti-bacterial.
In addition to this, MYK LATICRETE’s green product certification made it a safe and sustainable product keeping in line with Cochin Airport’s vision; while at the same time proving to be up to the challenge of handling traffic amounting to approximately 9 million travellers annually.
