MYK LATICRETE on a Fast Track – The Deccan Odyssey Luxury Train

On the tracks of luxury, The Deccan Odyssey is a train journey designed to traverse the passenger to a whole new world of fantasy and make the very thought of sight-seeing Maharashtra, a mesmerizing experience.

Deccan Odyssey from inside, crosses the barriers of luxury, redefining the real 5-star experience. It has 21 coaches out of which 11 are passenger cars with 4 cabins, each having a twin bed with attached bathroom. The train also has two Presidential Suite Cars, a conference car and two restaurant cars. Also in the ranks are a lounge/bar and a multi-functional Spa, to get the best life can offer.

Scope of application

To add beauty and compliment the grandeur of the train, Laticrete was selected to provide high strength adhesive and grout in each of the bathrooms present in the train.

The challenge was the substrate and the conditions in the train such as vibrations, shock, impact and thermal changes. The substrate was a thin sheet of plywood and tiles were to be installed on it.

Laticrete backed by its expertise of over 45 years provided the products for such a challenging installation. The products were tested for the conditions mentioned above at the Electronics Test Development Centre, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communication & Information Technology (Govt. of India) in Chennai. And only after the products were certified to have met the stringent standards for a running train, the installation was carried out.

The number of bathrooms installed with MYK LATICRETE system are 68. The Adhesive used to bond the tiles was the Latapoxy 300 Epoxy Adhesive and the Grout used for joint filling between the tiles was SP-100 TIle Joint for floors & walls (available in a range of colours).
